St Mary's Church,
Greenfield was built in 1874 and consecrated on
Ascension Day May 5th 1875. Built by George Shaw,
architect of Uppermill, the church was financed by
Richard Buckley of Hollyville, costing £7,000 to build
and furnish. It has served the Lord conscientiously for
some 133 years and has been looked after with care and
attention. But parts of its structure are in danger of
collapse and require urgent specialist attention if the
building is to be preserved for future generations.
How can you
help?
Starting in 2007 we need
to raise £750,000 to complete the repairs to the church.
The first phase of this work will be to repair the
spire, which will cost £250,000.
The continued existence of
St Mary's Church in Greenfield will depend on public
support.
A public appeal was
launched on 10th June 2007. We are looking for
households who will give £250 or more, as a single
donation or over a number of months, e.g. 25 monthly
payments of £10.00, or 36 monthly payments of £6.94. All £250 donations
will be included on a commemorative board which will be
displayed in church. If you feel unable to give this
amount, donations of any size will be gratefully
accepted and acknowledged in a donations book.
