The Crabs:
About Time
The new album by the hardest
working live band in the Oldham
area. Excellent album, includes 11
new tracks and booklet containing
lyrics.
The Crabs decided
to take a whole new approach to the
recording of this, their new album
“About Time” and as such they set up
their own recording facilities. This
way costly studio time and
restrictions became a thing of the
past and has allowed more artistic
freedom and time to explore the
themes of the songs. In doing so
the new material shows an increased
maturity and dynamic covering a
variety of topics close to each of
them: friendship, loneliness,
dreams, ambitions, spirituality,
loss, regret, optimism,
observations, love, hate and
cynicism.
Recorded between
early 2008 and mid 2009, The Crabs,
never wishing to be pigeon-holed,
have produced a collection of songs
varying in styles from the classic
60’s retro of “Did You Ever Get The
Feeling”, through the faux Bluegrass
of “All The Lonely People” and the
more introspective tracks of longing
(“Pinewood” and “I Wish”) passing by
the legendary Roger McGuinn jingle
jangle sounds of “Lord, Won’t You
Carry Me Home” and it’s companion
“Shine On” to the more indie feel of
“Falling Down”. We then progress
through the funk/rock of “I Am Free”
to the heavy soul and blues of
“Understanding” and “You’ll Never
Change” which was inspired by the
blues of Blind Willie Johnson (check
out the Sonny Boy Williamson style
harp) and finally culminating in the
protest song for the new millennium
– "Boy Band Blues”.
This album is a
totally exhilarating experience and
takes you on a musical journey with
many twists and turns and more than
it’s fair share of surprises on the
way (especially with the
introduction of many new instruments
to the mix all played by the band
themselves).
The album itself
comes complete with fantastic
looking artwork and on-body printing
with a full colour 8 page booklet
including lyrics and instrumentation
for all songs.
