Detours: Sense Of Purpose

The latest studio album from Sam, Ez and Ju with Paul Adshead is another masterpiece. Progressing naturally from their previous release 'A Dark Storm', 'Sense Of Purpose' uses even more instruments including banjulele, balalaika, fiddle and washboard. The album has a great mixture of rock, pop, country, folk, soul, gospel and bluegrass influences, and as always Detours' songs are highly melodic, and their lyrics very thoughtful, touching on life's many experiences, moods, feelings, topics and situations. Includes the album versions of 'Sense Of Purpose' with Kristyna Myles, and 'Come Back' with Morgan. As usual all are standout tracks, but other possible singles are 'Be Myself (Alone With You)', 'I Can't Help Myself Tonight' and 'Betrayed'.

Detours: The Bells Of St Mary EP with Kristyna Myles and Morgan

Detours team up with hotly tipped singer songwriter Kristyna Myles and seasoned singer Morgan to raise money for St Mary's Church Greenfield Restoration Fund in Saddleworth. Kristyna performs flute and guest vocals on 'Sense Of Purpose (Radio Edit)' written by Ez Jon Erikson, influenced by Native American Chief Seattle's prophetic speech on the environment in 1854. Sam Johnson wrote and performed the beautiful "brass band" instrumental title track. Other tracks are 'Come Back (Radio Edit)' and 'Never Felt This Way' both featuring Morgan. All four of these versions are exclusive to this release. The CD includes the bonus tracks 'For Your Love' and 'One More Time'.

Detours' second studio album developed their recorded sound  dramatically from the raw, stripped down acoustic sound to a much fuller rock band sound with the inclusion of drums, bass, piano, steel and occasional electric guitars. However, the acoustic feel is still very much present. All killer, no filler, with all tracks standouts. Detours: Debut

Detours is effectively an acoustic spin off from the Saddleworth rock band Diversion Ends, and this first Detours album is an acoustic tribute to them including 7 of their songs, with 5 originals from Ez Jon Erikson and Julian Flindle. It was recorded as an acoustic demo album whilst Detours began rehearsals for a Saddleworth Festival Of The Arts theatre concert in 2003, and they decided to release it "as is". The skeletal arrangements certainly capture the immediacy and energy of their live shows, and Sam Johnson's voice is on top form. Fan favourites include 'Doesn't Matter Much To Me', 'Stay With Me Tonight', 'General's War', 'Want To Be The One', 'Fear Of The World' and 'Best Thing'.
