December 2011

New Detours single available now!

The new Detours single 'Always Be To Me / Snowballed' was released on Monday 5th December 2011. The double A side features a brand new recording, the very touching 'Always Be To Me' written by Sam Johnson in memory of his friend Kay Dransfield, who sadly died earlier this year, and a remaster of Detours' classic Christmas song 'Snowballed' written by Ez Jon Erikson. The single is available as a download at several digital music providers including iTunes, Tesco Entertainment, Play.com and EMusic, and as a CDR On Demand from Detours Music Store on this website. The cover artwork, shown below, features photography of Sam's trumpet taken by Sharon Graham. 'Always Be To Me' was played on Manchester Radio Online's The Radio Shed show on Saturday 3rd December. Their DJs Brian Mitchell and Rae Leeson commented "brilliant, beautiful, loved it".

Something To Believe In Festival - a huge success

The Something To Believe In Festival, which was recently held at several venues in the Manchester area including the BBC over the August Bank Holiday weekend, was a huge success. It raised over £7,000 to fund the Winnie Mabaso Foundation, which supports the orphans of South Africa, many suffering with HIV/AIDS. Thank you to everyone who sponsored Detours for their performances, which Ez and Sam enjoyed very much. Sam also performed with his rock band Diversion Ends, and gave what Ez describes as "the performance of his life. He sang better than he has done since his accident four and a half years ago. He's certainly back!" Detours and Diversion Ends performed alongside other artists such as the awesome Texan band Funky Mustard, Harp and a Monkey, Dan Reed and George Borowski. Sam is pictured below with Funky Mustard's incredible lead guitarist Sparky Parker. Check them out at funkymustard.com. For further info on the Winnie Mabaso Foundation visit winniemabaso.org.
